What does Money Move mean on myStash

A savecheck is a unique way of receiving a part of your earnings from any company in Nigeria as Dollars so that you can easily save it against the inflation of the Naira.

What is Web3 and how to make money from it

Hey, it's been such a long time since the last money move conversation. But something just happened right now and we're back to start helping your financial journey.

This is bad for every Nigerian. Yes, every Nigerian citizen, even if you earn in foreign currency, you are not completely immune to the effects of the currency fall. Let me explain what is happening to you.

 

Nigeria is an import-dependent country, and to buy an item in a country, you need the currency acceptable in that country. The United States Dollar(USD) is world's most used currency and this means that businesses in Nigeria often need to exchange Naira for Dollars so that they can pay for goods. There are other reasons Nigerians need USD for; online payments, international school fees etc. 

 

To cover the Dollar needs of Nigerians, the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) has Dollar reserve and a specified rate at which it is willing to exchange our Naira for that Dollar. The problem is that there are limits to the amount of Dollars Nigerians can easily access. In many banks now, Nigerians have no way to access Dollars.
 

To bypass this, Nigerians can directly exchange their Dollars from other Nigerians howbeit, at rates higher than the CBN's fixed rates. This is called the Forex black market. There are a lot of factors which affect the rates Nigerans can freely trade the Naira and Dollar on the Black Market but the most important factor you need to know is availability. The Dollar to Naira rate increases when Nigerians have less access to Dollars like the card restrictions by the banks, difficulties in accessing PTA / BTA funds for business and travel expenses (Nigerians would say "Dollar is Scarce").

 
Since businesses are paying more to import raw materials and machinery, there's a ripple effect felt across the economy in price increases and it will touch everybody. And no, a vendor is not supposed to keep prices of stock same because they bought it at a particular price, the costs of restocking that product has also increased and to cover for that deficit, sellers have to increase prices of products.
 
Even though you cannot completely avoid the subsequent prices increases from the Naira devaluation, you can lessen the effect. How?
